Jonah too was one of the Envoys; 139 Call to mind when he fled to the laden ship, 140 So he shared (with them), but was of those who are cast off. 141 The fish then swallowed him and he blamed himself. (For not waiting for Allah’s command.) 142 And had he not been of those who [even in the deep darkness of their distress are able to] extol God's limitless glory, 143 He would have remained in its belly till the day when all will be raised. 144 ۞ But We cast him forth on the naked shore in a state of sickness, 145 And We caused to grow up for him a gourdplant. 146 And We had sent him to a hundred thousand: rather they exceeded. 147 and [this time] they believed [in him] and so We allowed them to enjoy their life during the time allotted to them? 148 (Muhammad), ask them, "Do daughters belong to your Lord and sons to them? 149 Or created We the angels females while they were witnesses? 150 Lo! it is of their falsehood that they say: 151 Allah has begotten; and most surely they are liars. 152 “Has he chosen daughters instead of sons?” 153 What is the matter with you, how is it that you judge? 154 “So do you not ponder?” 155 Do you have clear authority? 156 Then bring ye your Book (of authority) if ye be truthful! 157 And they imagine kinship between him and the jinn, whereas the jinn know well that they will be brought before (Him). 158 God is too glorious for what they ascribe to Him 159 But not so the servants of Allah, the purified ones. 160 So indeed, you [disbelievers] and whatever you worship, 161 Cannot lead astray [turn away from Him (Allah) anyone of the believers], 162 Except those who are predestined to burn in Hell! 163 There is not one of us but hath his known position. 164 Verily, we (angels), we stand in rows for the prayers (as you Muslims stand in rows for your prayers); 165 and we glorify God". 166 And indeed the disbelievers used to say, – 167 "If we had had with us a Book like that of the people of old, 168 We would have been the chosen servants of Allah." 169 They have rejected the Quran. They will soon know the consequences (of their disbelief). 170 Our Word had already preceded Our worshipers, the Messengers, 171 Most surely they shall be the assisted ones 172 And surely, only Our army will be victorious. 173 So withdraw from them (O Muhammad) awhile, 174 And watch them (how they fare), and they soon shall see (how thou farest)! 175 What! would they then hasten on Our chastisement? 176 So when it does descend in their courtyards – so what an evil morning it will be for those who were warned! 177 So turn away from them for a while. 178 and see, soon they shall see! 179 LIMITLESS in His glory is thy Sustainer, the Lord of almightiness, [exalted] above anything that men may devise by way of definition! 180 Peace be with the Messengers (of God). 181 And praise to Allah, Lord of the worlds. 182
