And verily Yunus was of the sent ones. 139 He ran away to the laden ship, 140 cast lots, and was among the losers. 141 Then a (big) fish swallowed him and he had done an act worthy of blame. 142 And had he not been of those who exalt Allah, 143 he would certainly have remained inside the fish till the Day of Resurrection. 144 ۞ So We cast him, sick, on a barren shore, 145 And We caused to grow over him a tree, a gourd. 146 Then We sent him to a hundred thousand or more, 147 and they believed; so We gave them enjoyment for a while. 148 Then ask them whether your Lord has daughters and they have sons. 149 Or did We make the angels females, and they witnessed it? 150 Is it not a lie invented by them when they say: 151 "God has begotten [a son]"; and verily, they are lying [too, when they say,] 152 Has He chosen daughters over sons? 153 What is the matter with you? How do you judge? 154 Will you not then mind? 155 “Or do you have some clear proof?” 156 Then bring ye your Book (of authority) if ye be truthful! 157 And they imagine kinship between him and the jinn, whereas the jinn know well that they will be brought before (Him). 158 God is far above what they attribute to Him, 159 all of them except the chosen servants of Allah. 160 So you and your deities 161 cannot mislead anyone 162 Except those who are predestined to burn in Hell! 163 And the angels say, “Each one of us has an appointed known position.” 164 and, verily, we too are ranged [before Him in worship]; 165 and, verily, we too extol His limitless glory!" 166 And they surely were wont to say: 167 "If only we had had before us a Message from those of old, 168 We would certainly have been the servants of Allah-- the purified ones. 169 But they disbelieved in it; soon they shall know! 170 Already has Our Word been passed before (this) to our Servants sent (by Us), 171 that they shall certainly be succoured, 172 and that Our hosts shall triumph. 173 So turn thou from them for a while, 174 And wait; they will come to know soon. 175 Do they want to hasten Our punishment? 176 Then when it descendeth unto them face to face, a hapless morn that shall be for those who were warned. 177 So turn thou away from them for a little while, 178 And see, for they are going to see. 179 Glory to thy Lord, the Lord of Honour and Power! (He is free) from what they ascribe (to Him)! 180 So peace be on the messengers, 181 It is only God, the Lord of the Universe, who deserves all praise. 182
