And indeed, Jonah was among the messengers. 139 He abandoned his people 140 And then they cast lots, and he was the one who lost; 141 Then he was swallowed by a large fish as he was worthy of blame. 142 Had he not been of them who glorify Allah, 143 He would have remained in its belly till the day when all will be raised. 144 ۞ But We cast him, upon the shore, and he was ill, 145 And We grew a tree of gourd (as a shelter) above him. 146 We sent him to a hundred thousand men or more, 147 and [this time] they believed [in him] and so We allowed them to enjoy their life during the time allotted to them? 148 Now ask them their opinion: Is it that thy Lord has (only) daughters, and they have sons?- 149 or is it that We have created the angels female, and they [who believe them to be divine] have witnessed [that act of creation]? 150 Pay heed! It is their slander that they say. – 151 God hath begotten. Verily they are the liars. 152 Has He chosen daughters over sons? 153 What is the matter with you? How judge ye? 154 What, and will you not remember? 155 Or have you, perchance, a clear evidence [for your assertions]? 156 “Then bring forth your Book, if you are truthful!” 157 They have established a kinship between Allah and the angels; and the angels know well that these people will be arraigned (as culprits). 158 Glorified is Allah! (He is Free) from what they attribute unto Him! 159 But not so the servants of Allah, the purified ones. 160 But as for you, and that you serve, 161 You cannot make anyone rebel against Him. 162 Except such as are (themselves) going to the blazing Fire! 163 (Those ranged in ranks say): "Not one of us but has a place appointed; 164 we are the rangers, 165 Verily, we (angels), we are they who glorify (Allah's Praises i.e. perform prayers). 166 And surely they used to say: 167 If we had but a reminder from the men of old 168 "We should certainly have been Servants of Allah, sincere (and devoted)!" 169 They have rejected the Quran. They will soon know the consequences (of their disbelief). 170 And surely Our word has gone forth respecting Our servants, the messengers: 171 That undoubtedly, only they will be helped. 172 and Our armies shall be the victors. 173 So turn away from them for a while. 174 and see them; soon they shall see! 175 Do they want to suffer Our torment immediately? 176 When it descends into their courtyard, it will be terrible for those who have already been warned. 177 So turn thou away from them for a little while, 178 and see; soon they shall see! 179 Glory to thy Lord, the Lord of Honour and Power! (He is free) from what they ascribe (to Him)! 180 And peace be unto those sent (to warn). 181 and praise belongs to God, the Lord of all Being. 182
