And indeed, Jonah was among the messengers. 139 He abandoned his people 140 Then he joined the lots, and was of the condemned. 141 Then the fish swallowed him, while he was blameworthy. 142 But had it not been that he was of those who glorify (Us), 143 He would certainly have remained inside the Fish till the Day of Resurrection. 144 ۞ Then We cast him on a desert shore while he was sick; 145 And We caused to grow over him a tree, a gourd. 146 We sent him to a hundred thousand men or more, 147 and [this time] they believed [in him] and so We allowed them to enjoy their life during the time allotted to them? 148 Now ask thou them: are there for thy Lord daughters and for them sons? 149 Or did We create the angels females, while they were witnesses? 150 Then is it of their lying that they say: 151 "God has begotten (children)?" They are liars indeed! 152 Has He chosen daughters in preference to sons? 153 What is the matter with you? How do you judge? 154 Then will you not be reminded? 155 Do you have clear authority? 156 Then produce your scripture, if you should be truthful. 157 And they have claimed between Him and the jinn a lineage, but the jinn have already known that they [who made such claims] will be brought to [punishment]. 158 Glorified be Allah from that which they attribute (unto Him), 159 Except the bondmen of Allah sincere. 160 Wherefore verily neither ye nor that which ye worship, 161 you shall not tempt any against Him 162 Except those who are predestined to burn in Hell! 163 Of us there is none but hath a station assigned. 164 We stand in ranks (for prayer) 165 And we are most surely they who declare the glory (of Allah). 166 They used to say before: 167 “If only we had the Reminder which had been granted to the people of yore 168 we would certainly be true servants of God." 169 But they disbelieve in it (the Koran), but soon they shall know! 170 for, long ago has Our word gone forth unto Our servants, the message-bearers, 171 That they would certainly be assisted, 172 and that it is Our host that would certainly triumph. 173 So turn thou from them for a while, 174 And see [what will befall] them, for they are going to see. 175 What! would they then hasten on Our chastisement? 176 But when it descends into the open space before them, evil will be the morning for those who were warned (and heeded not)! 177 And turn away from them for some time. 178 And see thou: they themselves shall presently see. 179 Glory be to your Lord, the Lord of Honor, above what they describe. 180 Peace be with the Messengers (of God). 181 And praise belongs to Allah, Lord of the Worlds. 182
