Jonah too was one of the messengers. 139 When he fled unto the laden ship, 140 He (agreed to) cast lots, and he was condemned: 141 then the whale swallowed him down, and he blameworthy. 142 Had he not been of them who glorify Allah, 143 He would have stayed in its belly till the day the dead are raised. 144 ۞ Then We cast him on a bare desert whilst he was sick. 145 and We caused a gourd tree to grow over him. 146 And We sent him towards a hundred thousand people, in fact more. 147 So they accepted faith – We therefore gave them usage for a while. 148 So ask their opinion: “(Are you convinced) that your Lord should have daughters and you should have sons? 149 Or did We make the angels females, and they witnessed it? 150 Verily, it is of their falsehood that they (Quraish pagans) say: 151 "God has begotten children." They are truly liars. 152 Has He (then) chosen daughters rather than sons? 153 “What is the matter with you? What sort of a judgement you impose!” 154 Will you then not take heed? 155 Or, is there for you a clear warranty 156 Then produce your scripture, if you should be truthful. 157 And they have invented a blood-relationship between Him and the Jinns: but the Jinns know (quite well) that they have indeed to appear (before his Judgment-Seat)! 158 God is too glorious to be described as they describe Him 159 Except the slaves of Allah, whom He choses (for His Mercy i.e. true believers of Islamic Monotheism who do not attribute false things unto Allah). 160 So, verily you (pagans) and those whom you worship (idols). 161 Cannot lead astray [turn away from Him (Allah) anyone of the believers], 162 Save him who will go to hell. 163 The angels say, "Each of us has an appointed place. 164 And most surely we are they who draw themselves out in ranks, 165 We glorify God." 166 Even though they (unbelievers) say, 167 'If only we had had a Reminder from the ancients, 168 "We would have indeed been the chosen slaves of Allah (true believers of Islamic Monotheism)!" 169 But they disbelieved in it; soon they shall know! 170 And certainly Our word has already gone forth in respect of Our servants, the apostles: 171 will certainly be victorious 172 And surely, only Our army will be victorious. 173 So, [O Muhammad], leave them for a time. 174 Watch them: they will soon see. 175 So are they being impatient for Our punishment? 176 But when it descends in their territory, then evil is the morning of those who were warned. 177 Hence, turn thou aside for a while from them, 178 And watch; they will come to know soon. 179 Exalted is your Lord, the Lord of might, above what they describe. 180 And peace be unto those sent (to warn). 181 and praise be to God, the Lord of all the Worlds. 182
