And lo! Jonah verily was of those sent (to warn) 139 When he ran to the laden ship, 140 He (agreed to) cast lots, and he was condemned: 141 Then a fish swallowed him, and he was blameworthy. 142 And were he not one of those who praise. – 143 he would certainly have remained inside the fish till the Day of Resurrection. 144 ۞ Then We cast him on a bare desert whilst he was sick. 145 and We caused a gourd tree to grow over him. 146 and We sent him forth to a nation of a hundred thousand or more, 147 and [this time] they believed [in him] and so We allowed them to enjoy their life during the time allotted to them? 148 Then ask them whether your Lord has daughters and they have sons. 149 Or did We create the angels females while they were witnesses? 150 Now surely it is of their own lie that they say: 151 "God has begotten children." They are truly liars. 152 Has He chosen daughters in preference to sons? 153 What is the matter with you? How do you decide? 154 Will you then not take heed? 155 Or have ye an authority manifest? 156 Then produce your writ, if ye are truthful. 157 They claim that He has kinship with the jinn, yet the jinn themselves know that they will be produced before Him [for judgement]. 158 Exaltations to Allah above what they describe, 159 Except the chosen servants of Allah [who do not share in that sin]. 160 So you and your deities 161 you shall tempt none against Him 162 Save him who is to burn in hell. 163 [All forces of nature praise God and say:] "Among us, too, there is none but has a place assigned to it [by Him]; 164 “And indeed we, with our wings spread, await the command.” 165 and we are of those who glorify Allah.” 166 What, would they then say: 167 Had we but an admonition as had the ancients. 168 we would surely have been Allah's chosen servants.” 169 Yet now (that it has come) they refuse to believe in it; but they will come to know soon. 170 And assuredly Our word hath already gone forth Our bondmen, the sent ones: 171 That verily they! they shall be made triumphant. 172 and that Our army will be triumphant. 173 So turn thou away from them for a little while, 174 Watch them: they will soon see. 175 Do they want to hasten Our punishment? 176 When it descends into their courtyard, it will be terrible for those who have already been warned. 177 Stay away from them for a while 178 and watch. They, too, will watch. 179 Too glorious is your Lord, the Lord of power, for what they ascribe to Him. 180 So peace be on the messengers, 181 And all praise is due to God alone, the Sustainer of all the worlds! 182
