Jonah, too, was one of the Messengers. 139 When he ran away to a ship completely laden, 140 Then he joined the lots, and was of the condemned. 141 Then the fish swallowed him, while he was blameworthy. 142 Had he not been of them who glorify Allah, 143 He would certainly have remained inside the Fish till the Day of Resurrection. 144 ۞ but We caused him to be cast forth on a desert shore, sick [at heart] as he was, 145 And We caused to grow over him a gourd vine. 146 We sent him to a hundred thousand men or more, 147 And they believed; so We permitted them to enjoy (their life) for a while. 148 (Muhammad), ask them, "Do daughters belong to your Lord and sons to them? 149 Or created We the angels females while they were witnesses? 150 It is only because of their false invention that they say, 151 Allah has begotten; and most surely they are liars. 152 Has He chosen daughters in preference to sons? 153 What is the matter with you that you make such strange judgements? 154 Will you not then mind? 155 Or have ye a clear warrant? 156 Then produce your writ, if ye are truthful. 157 And they have appointed a relationship between Him and the jinns; and indeed the jinns surely know that they will be brought forth. 158 Hallowed be Allah from that which they ascribe to Him. 159 But not so the servants of Allah, the purified ones. 160 So neither you nor those you worship 161 shall not be able to tempt anyone away from Allah 162 Save him Who is to roast in the Flaming Fire. 163 (Gabriel said to the Prophet): 'Each of us has a known place. 164 Lo! we, even we are they who set the ranks, 165 “And indeed we are those who say His purity.” 166 And there were those who said, 167 "If only we had a tradition [to this effect] from our forebears, 168 We would have been the chosen servants of Allah." 169 But when it came to them, they rejected it. They shall soon come to know (the end of such an attitude). 170 We decreed that Our Messenger servants 171 [That] indeed, they would be those given victory 172 and that Our hosts shall triumph. 173 So turn away (O Muhammad SAW) from them for a while, 174 and see, and soon they too shall see. 175 Do they seek to hasten on Our Torment? 176 Then when it descendeth unto them face to face, a hapless morn that shall be for those who were warned. 177 So turn thou away from them for a little while, 178 And see, for they are going to see. 179 Your Lord, the Lord of Honor, is too exalted to be considered as they describe Him. 180 And peace be upon all His message-bearers! 181 And all praise is due to God alone, the Sustainer of all the worlds! 182
True are the words of God the Almighty.
End of Surah: The Arrangers (Al-Saaffaat). Sent down in Mecca after Animals (Al-An 'aam) before Luqmaan (Luqmaan)
