S (Saad)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Sad. By the Quran, full of admonition! 1 Nay! those who disbelieve are in self-exaltation and opposition. 2 How many a nation did We destroy before them! (When they approached their doom) they cried out (for deliverance), but the time for deliverance was already past. 3 And they marvel that a warner from among themselves hath come unto them, and the disbelievers say: This is a wizard, a charlatan. 4 What, has he made the gods One God? This is indeed a wondrous thing' 5 And their leaders launch forth [thus]: "Go ahead, and hold steadfastly onto your deities: this, behold, is the only thing to do! 6 We never heard of it in the former faith. It is surely a fabrication. 7 Can it be that he alone has received the Quran?" In fact, they have doubts about My Quran and this is because they have not yet faced (My) torment. 8 Or is it that they have the treasures of the mercy of your Lord, the Mighty, the great Giver? 9 Or have they the dominion of the heavens and the earth and all between? If so, let them mount up with the ropes and means (to reach that end)! 10 A defeated host are (all) the factions that are there. 11 Before them (were many who) rejected messengers,- the people of Noah, and 'Ad, and Pharaoh, the Lord of Stakes, 12 And Thamud, and the people of Lout (Lot), and the dwellers of the wood; such were the confederates. 13 Not one of them but belied the Messengers, therefore My Torment was justified, 14
