S (Saad)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Sad. By the renowned Qur'an, 1 Nay, but the unbelievers are steeped in arrogance and stubborn defiance. 2 How many a nation did We destroy before them! (When they approached their doom) they cried out (for deliverance), but the time for deliverance was already past. 3 They were surprised that one of them had come to them as warner; and the unbelievers said: "He is a deceiving sorcerer. 4 What, has he made the gods One God? This is indeed a wondrous thing' 5 And the Council of them depart, saying 'Go! Be steadfast to your gods; this is a thing to be desired. 6 We never heard of this in the former faith; this is nothing but a forgery: 7 Has the reminder been revealed to him from among us? Nay! they are in doubt as to My reminder. Nay! they have not yet tasted My chastisement! 8 Or are theirs the treasures of the mercy of thy Lord, the Mighty, the Bestower? 9 Or is the kingdom of the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them, theirs? Then let them climb up the ladders (to the heavens). 10 They are only a small band among the defeated confederate tribes. 11 The folk of Noah before them denied (their messenger) and (so did the tribe of) A'ad, and Pharaoh firmly planted, 12 And the tribe of Thamud, and the people of Lut, and the People of the Woods; these are the groups. 13 Each of them gave the lie to Messengers and My decree of chastisement came upon them. 14
