Elucidated (Fussilat)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
HA MIM. 1 THE BESTOWAL from on high [of this revelation] issues from the Most Gracious, the Dispenser of Grace: 2 A Book, whereof the verses are explained in detail;- a Qur'an in Arabic, for people who understand;- 3 Giving glad tidings and heralding warning; so most of them turned away, therefore they cannot listen (to the truth). 4 And they say: Our hearts are protected from that unto which thou (O Muhammad) callest us, and in our ears there is a deafness, and between us and thee there is a veil. Act, then. Lo! we also shall be acting. 5 (Muhammad), say, "I am a mere mortal like you. I have received a revelation that your Lord is the only One. So be up-right and obedient to Him and seek forgiveness from Him. Woe to the pagans, 6 Those who give not the Zakat and they are disbelievers in the Hereafter. 7 Lo! as for those who believe and do good works, for them is a reward enduring. 8
