Whatever affliction may visit you is for what you own hands have earned; and He pardons much. 30 Ye cannot escape in the earth, for beside Allah ye have no protecting friend nor any helper. 31 And of His signs are the ships in the sea, like mountains. 32 If He pleases, He causes the wind to become still so that they lie motionless on its back; most surely there are signs in this for every patient, grateful one, 33 Or He may destroy them (by drowning) because of that which their (people) have earned. And He pardons much. 34 Then those who wrangle about Our Signs will come to know that there is no escape for them. 35 So whatever thing you have been given - it is but [for] enjoyment of the worldly life. But what is with Allah is better and more lasting for those who have believed and upon their Lord rely 36 And those who shun the great sins and indecencies, and whenever they are angry they forgive. 37 Who obey the commands of their Lord and fulfil their devotional obligations, whose affairs are settled by mutual consultation, who spend of what We have given them, 38 And those who, when they are oppressed vindicate themselves. 39 The meed of an ill-deed is an ill the like thereunto; but whosoever pardoneth and amendeth, his hire is on Allah; verily He approveth not the wrong-doers. 40 Those who successfully defend themselves after being wronged will not be questioned. 41 The way (of blame) is only against those who oppress mankind, and wrongfully rebel in the earth. For such there is a painful doom. 42 But surely he who bears patiently and is forgiving -- surely that is true constancy. 43
