Whatever misfortune befalls you is a consequence of your own deeds. But much of it He forgives. 30 You cannot thwart Him on the earth, and have no friend or helper apart from Him. 31 And among His Signs are the ships, smooth-running through the ocean, (tall) as mountains. 32 If He so wills, He can cause the winds to become still so that they will remain motionless on its surface. Surely there are many Signs in this for those who are wont to be steadfast and give thanks. 33 or He could have destroyed them as punishment for the human being's deeds. However, God pardons many sins. 34 And that those who argue concerning Our revelations may know they have no refuge. 35 So whatever thing you have been given - it is but [for] enjoyment of the worldly life. But what is with Allah is better and more lasting for those who have believed and upon their Lord rely 36 who eschew grave sins and shameful deeds, and whenever they are angry, forgive; 37 And those who answer the call of their Lord and establish worship, and whose affairs are a matter of counsel, and who spend of what We have bestowed on them, 38 and who, when insolence visits them, do help themselves -- 39 The recompense for an injury is an injury equal thereto (in degree): but if a person forgives and makes reconciliation, his reward is due from Allah: for (Allah) loveth not those who do wrong. 40 If one avenges himself after he has been wronged, there is no way of blaming him. 41 blame attaches but to those who oppress [other] people and behave outrageously on earth, offending against all right: for them there is grievous suffering in store! 42 Surely, he who bears patiently and forgives indeed that is true constancy. 43
