Vanity (Al-Zukhruf)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
HA MIM. 1 By the clear Book, 2 Lo! We have appointed it a Lecture, in Arabic that haply ye may understand. 3 It is in the Origin of the Book with Us, sublime and wise. 4 Should We divert this Good Counsel from you because you are a people immersed in extravagance? 5 Many a prophet had We sent to the earlier communities, 6 no Prophet came to them except that they mocked him, 7 And We destroyed greater than them in [striking] power, and the example of the former peoples has preceded. 8 Yet thus it is [with most people]: if thou ask them, "Who is it that has created the heavens and the earth?" - they will surely answer, "The Almighty, the All-Knowing has created them." 9 (Yea, the same that) has made for you the earth (like a carpet) spread out, and has made for you roads (and channels) therein, in order that ye may find guidance (on the way); 10 It is He who sends water down from the sky in due measure, We revive dead land with it and likewise you will be resurrected from the grave, 11 And Who has created all the pairs and has appointed for you ships and cattle on which you ride, 12 so that perhaps when you ride them, you will recall the bounties of your Lord and when you establish your control over it you would say, "Glory belongs to Him who has made it subservient to us when we would not have been able to do so ourselves. 13 To our Lord we shall all return". 14 AND YET, they attribute to Him offspring from among some of the beings created by Him! Verily, most obviously bereft of all gratitude is man! 15
