And whoever is blinded from remembrance of the Most Merciful - We appoint for him a devil, and he is to him a companion. 36 whereupon, behold, these [evil impulses] bar all such from the path [of truth,] making them think that they are guided aright! 37 Till, when he cometh unto Us, he saith (unto his comrade): Ah, would that between me and thee there were the distance of the two horizons - an evil comrade! 38 When ye have done wrong, it will avail you nothing, that Day, that ye shall be partners in Punishment! 39 Can you [Prophet] make the deaf hear? Or guide either the blind or those who are in manifest error? 40 And if We take thee away, We surely shall take vengeance on them, 41 Or (if) We show thee that wherewith We threaten them; for lo! We have complete command of them. 42 Follow devotedly that which is revealed to you. You are certainly on the right path. 43 And lo! it is in truth a Reminder for thee and for thy folk; and ye will be questioned. 44 Yet [above all else,] ask any of Our apostles whom We sent forth before thy time whether We have ever allowed that deities other than the Most Gracious be worshipped! 45
