He who is negligent to remember the Merciful One, to him We assign a satan as his boon companion, 36 Satan will prevent them from the right path while they think that they have the right guidance. 37 Until when he comes before Us he will say (to the devil): "Would to God there was a distance of the East and West between you and me, for you were an evil companion!" 38 And never will it benefit you that Day, when you have wronged, that you are [all] sharing in the punishment. 39 Can you [Prophet] make the deaf hear? Or guide either the blind or those who are in manifest error? 40 But if We should take you away, still We shall inflict retribution on them; 41 or We shall show you what We have promised them; for surely We have complete power over them. 42 So hold thou fast to the Revelation sent down to thee; verily thou art on a Straight Way. 43 and, verily, this [revelation] shall indeed become [a source of] eminence for thee and thy people: but in time you all will be called to account [for what you have done with it]. 44 Yet [above all else,] ask any of Our apostles whom We sent forth before thy time whether We have ever allowed that deities other than the Most Gracious be worshipped! 45
