As for one who turns away from the remembrance of the Gracious God, We appoint for him a devil, who will become his intimate companion. 36 And verily they hinder them from the way, whilst they deem that they are rightly guided. 37 Till, when (such a one) comes to Us, he says [to his Qarin (Satan / devil companion)] "Would that between me and you were the distance of the two easts (or the east and west)" a worst (type of) companion (indeed)! 38 When ye have done wrong, it will avail you nothing, that Day, that ye shall be partners in Punishment! 39 So will you make the deaf listen or show the path to the blind, and to those who are in open error? (The disbelievers whose hearts are sealed, are deaf and blind to the truth). 40 Even if We take you away, We shall take vengeance upon them, 41 Or if We shew thee that wherewith We threaten them, verily We are going to prevail over them. 42 So, hold fast to the Book that has been revealed to you, you are surely on the right path, 43 And indeed, it is a remembrance for you and your people, and you [all] are going to be questioned. 44 Yet [above all else,] ask any of Our apostles whom We sent forth before thy time whether We have ever allowed that deities other than the Most Gracious be worshipped! 45
