Al-Zukhruf 5 of 7

And assuredly We sent Musa with Our signs unto Fir'awn and his chiefs, and he said: verily I am an apostle of the Lord of the worlds. 46 But when he brought them Our signs, at once they laughed at them. 47 Every Sign that We showed them was greater than its predecessor; and then We seized them with Our chastisement so that they may return (to the Right Way). 48 And they said, 'Sorcerer, pray to thy Lord for us by the covenant He has made with thee, and surely we shall be right-guided.' 49 Then when We had removed from them the torment, behold they were breaking their promise. 50 Then Pharaoh made a proclamation to his people: 'My people, is the kingdom of Egypt not mine and these rivers which flow beneath me? What, can you not see? 51 Am I not better than this lowly man who can barely express himself? 52 and why have not armlets of gold been bestowed on him and why is there not a train of angels accompanying him?" 53 In this way he fooled his people and they obeyed him: they were a rebellious people. 54 So when they vexed Us, We took vengeance on them, and We drowned them all. 55 and We made them a thing past, and We appointed them for an example to later folk. 56
