THUS, INDEED, have We sent Moses with Our messages unto Pharaoh and his great ones; and he said: "Behold, I am an apostle of the Sustainer of all the worlds!" 46 But when he brought them Our tokens, behold! they laughed at them. 47 And not an Ayah (sign, etc.) We showed them but it was greater than its fellow, and We seized them with torment, in order that they might turn [from their polytheism to Allah's Religion (Islamic Monotheism)]. 48 And they said, "O thou sorcerer! Invoke thy Lord for us according to His covenant with thee; for we shall truly accept guidance." 49 But when We removed the Penalty from them, behold, they broke their word. 50 And Fir'awn proclaimed among his people, saying: O my people! is not mine the dominion of Misr and witness yonder rivers flowing underneath me? See ye not? 51 Am I not better than this contemptible (man), who can scarcely make things clear (because of the impediment of his speech)? 52 "Then why are not gold bracelets bestowed on him, or (why) come (not) with him angels accompanying him in procession?" 53 Thus he made light (of the matter) to his people, and they obeyed him. They were certainly wicked. 54 So, when they had angered Us, We took vengeance on them, and We drowned them all together; 55 We made them become of the people of the past and an example for the coming generations. 56
