We also sent Moses with Our signs to Pharaoh and his Council, and he said, 'Surely, I am the Messenger of the Lord of all Being.' 46 But when he brought to them Our signs they laughed at them, 47 yet there was not a sign that We showed them that was not greater than its sister, and We seized them with the punishment so that they might return. 48 And they said, "O thou sorcerer! Invoke thy Lord for us according to His covenant with thee; for we shall truly accept guidance." 49 Then when We had removed from them the torment, behold they were breaking their promise. 50 Then Pharaoh made a proclamation to his people: 'My people, is the kingdom of Egypt not mine and these rivers which flow beneath me? What, can you not see? 51 “Or that I am better than him, for he is lowly – and he does not seem to talk plainly.” 52 “So why was he not bestowed with armlets of gold? Or angels should have come with him staying at his side!” 53 Thus he [Fir'aun (Pharaoh)] befooled and misled his people, and they obeyed him. Verily, they were ever a people who were Fasiqun (rebellious, disobedient to Allah). 54 So, when they angered Us, We punished them and drowned them every one. 55 and We made them a thing of the past, and We made them an example to later people. 56
