And indeed We did send Musa (Moses) with Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) to Fir'aun (Pharaoh) and his chiefs (inviting them to Allah's Religion of Islam) He said: "Verily, I am a Messenger of the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists)." 46 But as soon as he came before them with Our [miraculous] signs, lo! they derided them, 47 although each sign that We showed them was weightier than the preceding one: and [each time] We took them to task through suffering, so that they might return [to Us]. 48 And they said: O wizard! Entreat thy Lord for us by the pact that He hath made with thee. Lo! we verily will walk aright. 49 But when We removed the Penalty from them, behold, they broke their word. 50 And Firon proclaimed amongst his people: O my people! is not the kingdom of Egypt mine? And these rivers flow beneath me; do you not then see? 51 Aye! I am better than this one who is despicable, and well-nigh cannot make himself plain. 52 But why have not bracelets of gold been put upon him, or why have there not come with him angels as companions? 53 So he made his people unsteady, and they obeyed him; surely they were an ungodly people. 54 So, when they angered Us, We punished them and drowned them every one. 55 We made them a precedent, an example for later peoples. 56
