۞ And when the son of Maryam is held up, an example, behold! thy people thereat cry out. 57 And they say, “Are our deities better or he?” They did not say this to you except to unjustly argue; in fact they are a quarrelsome people. 58 [As for Jesus,] he was nothing but [a human being] a servant [of Ours] whom We had graced [with prophethood,] and whom We made an example for the children of Israel. 59 Had it been Our Will We would have made angels among you as successors in the earth. 60 And indeed, Jesus will be [a sign for] knowledge of the Hour, so be not in doubt of it, and follow Me. This is a straight path. 61 Let not the Evil One hinder you: for he is to you an enemy avowed. 62 And when Jesus came with the clear signs he said, 'I have come to you with wisdom, and that I may make clear to you some of that whereon you are at variance; so fear you God and obey you me. 63 “Allah is indeed my Lord, and yours therefore worship Him; this is the Straight Path.” 64 Yet the parties differed among themselves. So woe to those who did evil among the punishment of a Painful Day. 65 Are they waiting except for the Hour to come upon them suddenly while they perceive not? 66 On that Day even bosom friends shall become enemies to one another, all except the God-fearing. 67
