Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Ha Mim 1 I swear by the Book that makes manifest (the truth). 2 (That) We sent it down one night of blessing -- so that We could warn -- 3 therein every wise bidding 4 As a command from before Us. Verily We were to become senders: 5 as a Mercy from your Lord. Surely He is All-Hearing, All-Seeing, 6 Lord of the heavens and earth, and all that between them is if you have faith. 7 there is no deity save Him: It is He who gives both life and death -- He is your Lord, and the Lord of your forefathers, 8 Rather they are in doubt, playing. 9 Then watch thou for the Day that the sky will bring forth a kind of smoke (or mist) plainly visible, 10 Enveloping the people: this will be a Penalty Grievous. 11 Then they will say, "Lord, relieve us from this torment, for truly we are now believers in You." 12 How can there be an admonition unto them, when surely there came unto them an apostle manifest! 13 and they turned away, saying, "He is a trained and insane person". 14 Yet We will hold the scourge back for a while, (but no sooner than We will do so) you will revert to your old ways. 15 The day when We will seize with the greatest seizure – We will indeed take revenge. 16 ۞ We tried the people of Pharaoh before them: a noble messenger was sent to them, 17 Saying: restore to me the bondmen of Allah, verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 18 Do not rise up against Allah, I come to you with clear authority. 19 and I take refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you should stone me. 20 But if you do not believe what I say, leave me alone (and desist from laying hands on me).” 21 Then he called upon his Lord: “These are a criminal people.” 22 [Allah said], "Then set out with My servants by night. Indeed, you are to be pursued. 23 "And leave the sea as it is (quiet and divided). Verily, They are a host to be drowned." 24 How many of the gardens and fountains have they left! 25 And the cornlands and the goodly sites 26 and good things in which they took delight. 27 Even so; and We bequeathed them upon another people. 28 So the heavens and the earth did not weep for them, and they were not given respite. 29
