Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Ha'. Mim. 1 By oath of this clear Book. 2 We sent it down during a Blessed Night: for We (ever) wish to warn (against Evil). 3 on that night every wise decree is specified 4 by Our command. Verily, We were set to send a Messenger 5 As mercy from your Lord. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Knowing. 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them; if you people believe. 7 There is no god but He; He gives life and causes death, your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of yore. 8 But they are in doubt, amusing themselves. 9 So wait thou the day whereon the heaven will bring forth a manifest smoke: 10 That shall overtake men; this is a painful punishment. 11 Our Lord! remove from us the punishment; surely we are believers. 12 How could this punishment bring them to their senses when a Messenger evidently had come to them, 13 But they turned away from him, and said: "He is well-instructed, (but) possessed." 14 We are removing the punishment a little, but you revert. 15 on the Day when We shall seize [all sinners] with a most mighty onslaught, We shall, verily, inflict Our retribution [on you as well]! 16 ۞ And indeed We tried before them Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people, when there came to them a noble Messenger [i.e. Musa (Moses)], 17 Saying: "Restore to me the slaves of Allah (i.e. the Children of Israel). Verily! I am to you a Messenger worthy of all trust, 18 And saying, “And do not rebel against Allah; I have brought a clear proof to you.” 19 I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you stone me. 20 And if you do not believe me, [at least] stand away from me!" 21 (But they were aggressive:) then he cried to his Lord: "These are indeed a people given to sin." 22 (He was told): “Set out with My servants by night for you will certainly be pursued. 23 And leave the sea behind at rest, for lo! they are a drowned host. 24 How many were the gardens and the watersprings that they left behind, 25 And fields and grand palaces! 26 and [all that] life of ease in which they used to delight! 27 Thus. And We caused to inherit it another people. 28 Neither heaven nor earth shed tears for them; nor were they respited, 29
