Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Ha Mim 1 By the Scripture that maketh plain 2 Lo! We revealed it on a blessed night - Lo! We are ever warning - 3 In it every wise matter is determined 4 A command from Us; surely We are the senders (of apostles), 5 (As) a Mercy from your Lord. Verily! He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower. 6 the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them - if you could but grasp it with inner certainty! 7 There is no worship except for Him – He gives life and causes death; your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers. 8 Yet they are in doubt, playing. 9 Wait, then, for the Day when the sky brings forth plainly visible clouds of smoke. 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful torment. 11 Our Lord! remove from us the punishment; surely we are believers. 12 How can there be an admonition unto them, when surely there came unto them an apostle manifest! 13 Whereas they had then turned away from him and said, “He is a madman, tutored!”? 14 Verily, We shall remove the torment for a while. Verily! You will revert. 15 However, We shall truly take Our revenge on the day when the great seizure takes place. 16 ۞ And certainly We tried before them the people of Firon, and there came to them a noble apostle, 17 Saying: "Restore to me the Servants of Allah: I am to you an messenger worthy of all trust; 18 Do not set yourselves above God: I bring you clear authority. 19 and, behold, it is with my Sustainer - and your Sustainer - that I seek refuge against all your endeavours to revile me. 20 And if ye will not believe in me, then let me alone. 21 Then he supplicated to his Lord saying: 'These are sinful people' 22 So depart thou with My bondmen by night; verily ye shall be pursued. 23 And leave the sea behind at rest, for lo! they are a drowned host. 24 How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind, 25 sown fields, and how noble a station, 26 And goodly things wherein they rejoiced; 27 We gave these as an inheritance to other people. 28 Neither did the heavens weep for them, nor the earth, nor were they granted respite. 29
