Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Ha-Mim. 1 By the Clear Book. 2 Indeed, We sent it down during a blessed night. Indeed, We were to warn [mankind]. 3 On that [night] was made clear, in wisdom, the distinction between all things [good and evil] 4 by Our own command -- We have been sending messages, 5 As Mercy from thy Lord: for He hears and knows (all things); 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you are certain (of your faith). 7 There is no god but He: It is He Who gives life and gives death,- The Lord and Cherisher to you and your earliest ancestors. 8 Nay, but they play in doubt. 9 Watch for the Day when the heaven will bring clear smoke, 10 which will smother the people. They will say, "This is a painful torment. 11 Thereupon they will say, “O our Lord! Remove the punishment from us – we now accept faith.” 12 [But] how shall this remembrance avail them [at the Last Hour,] seeing that an apostle had previously come unto them, clearly expounding the truth, 13 Then they turned away from him and said, "He is a madman, taught by others!" 14 Indeed, We will remove the torment for a little. Indeed, you [disbelievers] will return [to disbelief]. 15 The day when We will seize with the greatest seizure – We will indeed take revenge. 16 ۞ We had tried the people of Pharaoh before them. A respected prophet had come to them (saying): 17 (and said): “Deliver to me Allah's servants. I am a trustworthy Messenger to you, 18 Do not consider yourselves above God. I shall show you a manifest authority (in support of my truthfulness). 19 and, behold, it is with my Sustainer - and your Sustainer - that I seek refuge against all your endeavours to revile me. 20 If you do not believe in me, leave me alone." 21 Then he called to his Lord: "These are a sinful people." 22 We told him, "Leave the city with My servants during the night. You will be pursued. 23 And leave the sea becalmed; they are a drowned host.' 24 How many of gardens and springs do they [Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people] left. 25 corn-fields, gracious mansions, 26 And favours amongst which they were rejoicing! 27 As such (it was). And We made other people inherit them. 28 So the heavens and the earth did not weep for them, and they were not given respite. 29
