Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Ha Mim 1 By the Clear Book. 2 Surely We revealed it on a blessed night surely We are ever warning-- 3 On which all affairs are sorted out and decided 4 an order from Us. We are ever sending. 5 As Mercy from thy Lord: for He hears and knows (all things); 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and that between them, if you would be certain. 7 There is no deity except Him; He gives life and causes death. [He is] your Lord and the Lord of your first forefathers. 8 Yet they play about in doubt. 9 So you await the day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. – 10 Which would envelope mankind. That would be a grievous affliction. 11 (They will say:) "Our Lord! remove the Penalty from us, for we do really believe!" 12 How shall they be reminded, and there came to them an Apostle making clear (the truth), 13 Then they turned away from him and said, "[He was] taught [and is] a madman." 14 'Behold, We are removing the chastisement a little; behold, you revert!' 15 But on that Day We will assault them most mightily, and then We shall revenge! 16 ۞ And We had already tried before them the people of Pharaoh, and there came to them a noble messenger, 17 [Saying], "Render to me the servants of Allah. Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger," 18 "And exalt not yourselves against God: for, verily, I come unto you with a manifest authority [from Him]; 19 And surely I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord that you should stone me to death: 20 If you do not want to believe, leave me alone". 21 And he cried unto his Lord, (saying): These are guilty folk. 22 We commanded him, “Journey with My bondmen in a part of the night – you will be pursued.” 23 "And leave the sea as a furrow (divided): for they are a host (destined) to be drowned." 24 How many gardens did they leave behind, and how many fountains 25 and sown fields, fine sitting places, 26 and what prosperity they had rejoiced in! 27 Even so (it was), and We made it an inheritance for other folk; 28 And neither heaven nor earth shed a tear over them: nor were they given a respite (again). 29
