Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 By oath of this clear Book. 2 We have indeed sent it down in a blessed night – indeed it is We Who warn. 3 In it every wise matter is determined 4 By command, from Our Presence. For We (ever) send (revelations), 5 A Mercy from your Lord, He is the Hearer, the Knower. 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatsoever is in-between the twain, if only ye would be convinced. 7 There is no god but He; He gives life and makes to die; your Lord and the Lord of your fathers, the ancients. 8 Nay, but they [who lack inner certainty] are but dying with their doubts. 9 So watch for the Day when the sky will come down with a pall of smoke, 10 enveloping all mankind, [and causing the sinners to exclaim:] "Grievous is this suffering! 11 (People will then say): “Our Lord, remove this scourge from us; we shall believe.” 12 How will there be for them a reminder [at that time]? And there had come to them a clear Messenger. 13 And they had turned away from him and said: One taught (by others), a madman? 14 We are removing the punishment a little, but you revert. 15 The day that We shall seize them with a grievous hold, We will indeed castigate them. 16 ۞ Indeed before that We subjected the Pharaonites to the same test. A noble Messenger came to them 17 Saying: Give up to me the slaves of Allah. Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you. 18 and, 'Rise not up against God; behold, I come to you with a clear authority, 19 and, behold, it is with my Sustainer - and your Sustainer - that I seek refuge against all your endeavours to revile me. 20 And if ye put no faith in me, then let me go. 21 Then he called to his Lord: "These are a sinful people." 22 "Journey by night with My devotees," (it was said); "you will certainly be pursued. 23 And leave the sea behind you as calm as ever. Surely they are an army that is doomed to be drowned.” 24 How many gardens and water-springs they left behind! 25 And fields and stately mansions, 26 and the life of ease in which they took delight! 27 Even so; and We bequeathed them upon another people. 28 And the heavens and the earth wept not over them, nor were they respited. 29
