Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha Mim 1 By the Book that makes things clear; 2 (That) We sent it down one night of blessing -- so that We could warn -- 3 Whereon every wise command is made clear 4 A command from Us; surely We are the senders (of apostles), 5 as a mercy (for the human being) from your Lord. Your Lord is All-hearing and All-knowing. 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and what is between them, if you would be sure. 7 There is no god but He: He gives life and causes death. He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers of yore. 8 Yet they are in doubt, playing. 9 Watch for the Day when the heaven will bring clear smoke, 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful torment. 11 (They will say): "Our Lord! Remove the torment from us, really we shall become believers!" 12 How can they benefit from admonition, seeing that a messenger had already come to them explaining things clearly? 13 Yet they turned away from him and said: one tutored, one distraced. 14 [Still,] behold, We shall postpone this suffering for a little while, although you are bound to revert [to your evil ways: but] 15 On the Day when We shall seize you with the greatest grasp. Verily, We will exact retribution. 16 ۞ Already before them We tried the people of Pharaoh, and a noble Messenger came unto them, 17 "Send the servants of God with me. I am a trustworthy Messenger sent to you. 18 Do not think yourselves to be above God: I have come to you with clear authority. 19 and, behold, it is with my Sustainer - and your Sustainer - that I seek refuge against all your endeavours to revile me. 20 And if ye will not believe in me, then let me alone. 21 (But they were aggressive), so he [Musa (Moses)] called upon his Lord (saying): "These are indeed the people who are Mujrimun (disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, criminals, etc.)." 22 We told him, "Leave the city with My servants during the night. You will be pursued. 23 And leave the sea behind at rest, for lo! they are a drowned host. 24 How many were the gardens and springs they left behind, 25 and fields of grain, and noble dwellings, 26 and pleasant things in which they delighted! 27 Thus it was; and We made another people inherit all that. 28 The sky nor the earth cried for them, nor were they given respite. 29
