Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Ha Mim. 1 I swear by the Book that makes manifest (the truth). 2 Verily We have sent it down on a blessed night, verily We were to become warners. 3 therein every wise bidding 4 By command, from Our Presence. For We (ever) send (revelations), 5 as a Mercy from your Lord. Surely He is All-Hearing, All-Seeing, 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatsoever is in-between the twain, if only ye would be convinced. 7 There is no god but He; He gives life and makes to die; your Lord and the Lord of your fathers, the ancients. 8 Rather they are in doubt, playing. 9 But watch thou (O Muhammad) for the day when the sky will produce visible smoke 10 Covering the people; this is a painful torment. 11 (They will say:) "Our Lord! remove the Penalty from us, for we do really believe!" 12 How is it possible for them to accept guidance, whereas a Noble Messenger who speaks clearly has already come to them? 13 Then they had turned away from him (Messenger Muhammad SAW) and said: "One (Muhammad SAW) taught (by a human being), a madman!" 14 Yet We will hold the scourge back for a while, (but no sooner than We will do so) you will revert to your old ways. 15 However, We shall truly take Our revenge on the day when the great seizure takes place. 16 ۞ And certainly We tried before them the people of Firon, and there came to them a noble apostle, 17 Saying: "Restore to me the Servants of Allah: I am to you an messenger worthy of all trust; 18 "And be not arrogant as against Allah: for I come to you with authority manifest. 19 And lo! I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord lest ye stone me to death. 20 'But if so be that you believe me not, go you apart from me!' 21 But then, [when they beset him with their enmity,] he called out to his Sustainer, "These are [indeed] people lost in sin!" 22 We told him, "Leave the city with My servants during the night. You will be pursued. 23 Leave the sea behind you parted; they are a host destined to be drowned." 24 How many were the gardens and the watersprings that they left behind, 25 sown fields, and how noble a station, 26 And wealth (and conveniences of life), wherein they had taken such delight! 27 Thus it was. And [then] We made another people heirs [to what they had left,] 28 And the heavens and the earth wept not over them, nor were they respited. 29
