Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 CONSIDER this divine writ, clear in itself and clearly showing the truth! 2 We revealed it on a Blessed Night, for We were intent on warning; 3 In the (Night) is made distinct every affair of wisdom, 4 A command from Us; surely We are the senders (of apostles), 5 A mercy from your Lord. Verily He is all-hearing and all-knowing, 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them, if you really do believe. 7 There is no god but He; He gives life and causes death, your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of yore. 8 yet, they toy with their doubts. 9 Then watch for the Day when the sky will bring a visible smoke. 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful torment. 11 (Then they will say): Our Lord relieve us of the torment. Lo! we are believers. 12 How should they have the Reminder, seeing a clear Messenger already came to them, 13 Yet they turned away from him and said: one tutored, one distraced. 14 [Still,] behold, We shall postpone this suffering for a little while, although you are bound to revert [to your evil ways: but] 15 But on that Day We will assault them most mightily, and then We shall revenge! 16 ۞ And before them We indeed tried the people of Firaun, and an Honourable Noble Messenger came to them. 17 [Saying], "Render to me the servants of Allah. Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger," 18 Do not rise up against Allah, I come to you with clear authority. 19 I have sought refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you stone me [to death]. 20 And if ye put no faith in me, then let me go. 21 (But they were aggressive), so he [Musa (Moses)] called upon his Lord (saying): "These are indeed the people who are Mujrimun (disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, criminals, etc.)." 22 We commanded him, “Journey with My bondmen in a part of the night – you will be pursued.” 23 Then leave the sea calm they are an army that will be drowned. 24 How many gardens and fountains they left behind them, 25 And crops and noble sites 26 And goodly things wherein they rejoiced; 27 We gave these as an inheritance to other people. 28 And neither heaven nor earth shed a tear over them: nor were they given a respite (again). 29
