Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Ha Mim. 1 The perspicuous Book is witness 2 Lo! We revealed it on a blessed night - Lo! We are ever warning - 3 On this night, every absolute command coming from Us becomes distinguishable. 4 determined as a bidding from Us, (We are ever sending) 5 as a mercy (for the human being) from your Lord. Your Lord is All-hearing and All-knowing. 6 the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them - if you could but grasp it with inner certainty! 7 La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). It is He Who gives life and causes death, your Lord and the Lord of your fore-fathers. 8 Nay, but they play in doubt. 9 Wait for the day (which will come before the Day of Judgment) when the sky will give out dense smoke 10 Covering the people, this shall be a torment afflictive. 11 (They will say:) "Our Lord! remove the Penalty from us, for we do really believe!" 12 How shall they be reminded, and there came to them an Apostle making clear (the truth), 13 Then they had turned away from him (Messenger Muhammad SAW) and said: "One (Muhammad SAW) taught (by a human being), a madman!" 14 Lo! We withdraw the torment a little. Lo! ye return (to disbelief). 15 But on that Day We will assault them most mightily, and then We shall revenge! 16 ۞ We tried the people of Pharaoh before them: a noble messenger was sent to them, 17 "Deliver the creatures of God to me. I am the trusted messenger sent to you. 18 And saying exalt not yourselves against Allah; verily I have come unto you with an authority manifest. 19 I have taken refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you should attack me with stones. 20 If you do not believe in me, leave me alone." 21 (But they were aggressive:) then he cried to his Lord: "These are indeed a people given to sin." 22 (His Lord answered): 'Set out with My worshipers in the night, for you will surely be followed. 23 and leave the sea becalmed [between thee and Pharaoh's men]: for, verily, they are a host destined to be drowned!" 24 How many were the gardens and springs they left behind, 25 And fields and stately mansions, 26 And comfort wherein they were amused. 27 Thus it was; and We passed them on to another people. 28 And the heavens and the earth wept not for them, nor were they given a respite. 29
