Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
HaMeem 1 By the Book that makes things clear; 2 We have sent it down in a blessed night (We are ever warning) 3 on that night every wise decree is specified 4 The command that We have been sending 5 as a mercy from thy Lord (surely He is the All-hearing, the All-knowing) 6 He is the Lord of heaven and earth and all that is between them, if only you would really believe, 7 There is no god but He; He gives life and causes death, your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of yore. 8 Yet they play about in doubt. 9 Wait for the day (which will come before the Day of Judgment) when the sky will give out dense smoke 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful torment. 11 (Then they will say): Our Lord relieve us of the torment. Lo! we are believers. 12 How shall the message be (effectual) for them, seeing that an Messenger explaining things clearly has (already) come to them,- 13 yet they turned away from him and said: “This is a well-tutored madman.” 14 We shall indeed remove the Penalty for a while, (but) truly ye will revert (to your ways). 15 However, We shall truly take Our revenge on the day when the great seizure takes place. 16 ۞ We tried the people of Pharaoh before them: a noble messenger was sent to them, 17 Saying: Deliver to me the servants of Allah, surely I am a faithful apostle to you, 18 Do not think yourselves to be above God: I have come to you with clear authority. 19 I have sought refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you stone me [to death]. 20 And if you do not believe me, then leave me' 21 Then he called upon his Lord: “These are a criminal people.” 22 (Allah said): "Depart you with My slaves by night. Surely, you will be pursued. 23 And leave the sea behind at rest, for lo! they are a drowned host. 24 How many were the gardens and the watersprings that they left behind, 25 and sown fields and splendid mansions, 26 And comforts of life wherein they used to take delight! 27 Thus (it was)! And We made other people inherit them (i.e. We made the Children of Israel to inherit the kingdom of Egypt). 28 Neither heaven nor earth wept for them, nor were they respited; 29
