Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Ha-Mim. 1 By the Book that makes things clear, 2 (That) We sent it down one night of blessing -- so that We could warn -- 3 On which all affairs are sorted out and decided 4 As a command from Our presence - Lo! We are ever sending - 5 A mercy from your Lord; indeed He only is the All Hearing, the All Knowing. 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you are certain (of your faith). 7 There is no god other than He, who gives you life and death, your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of old. 8 Nay, but they are in doubt, playing. 9 So you await the day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. – 10 enveloping people. That will be a grievous scourge. 11 O our Sustainer, relieve us of suffering, for, verily, we [now] believe [in Thee]!" 12 How can there be for them an admonition (at the time when the torment has reached them), when a Messenger explaining things clearly has already come to them. 13 then they turned away from him and said, 'A man tutored, possessed!' 14 If We remove the torment a little, you revert back (to misdeeds). 15 On the Day We inflict the direst scourge upon all sinners, We will certainly exact retribution. 16 ۞ And indeed We tried before them Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people, when there came to them a noble Messenger [i.e. Musa (Moses)], 17 Saying: Give up to me the slaves of Allah. Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you. 18 And that do not exalt yourselves against Allah, surely I will bring to you a clear authority: 19 "For me, I have sought safety with my Lord and your Lord, against your injuring me. 20 But if you do not believe what I say, leave me alone (and desist from laying hands on me).” 21 Then he called to his Lord: "These are a sinful people." 22 We told him, "Leave the city with My servants during the night. You will be pursued. 23 "And leave the sea as a furrow (divided): for they are a host (destined) to be drowned." 24 How many gardens and water-springs they left behind! 25 And corn-fields and noble buildings, 26 And the comfort they enjoyed. 27 Even so; and We caused to inherit them another people. 28 And the heavens and the earth wept not for them, nor were they given a respite. 29
