Have you heard the story of the honorable guests of Abraham? 24 When they came to him they said, "Peace!" He answered, "Peace!" [saying to himself]. "They are strangers." 25 Then he turned away privately unto his household, and brought a calf fatted. 26 He placed it before them. Then he said, "Why are you not eating?" 27 [And when he saw that the guests would not eat,] he became apprehensive of them; [but] they said, "Fear not" - and gave him the glad tiding of [the birth of] a son who would be endowed with deep knowledge. 28 Thereupon his wife approached [the guests] with a loud cry, and struck her face [in astonishment] and exclaimed: "A barren old woman [like me]!" 29 They said, "Thus has said your Lord; indeed, He is the Wise, the Knowing." 30 ۞ (Abraham) said: And (afterward) what is your errand, O ye sent (from Allah)? 31 They said: verily we are sent unto a people, guilty. 32 "To bring on, on them, (a shower of) stones of clay (brimstone), 33 marked by your Lord for the sinful' 34 Then We evacuated there from all the believers 35 for apart from one [single] house We did not find there any who had surrendered themselves to Us. 36 And We have left there a sign (i.e. the place of the Dead Sea, well-known in Palestine) for those who fear the painful torment. 37 There is another sign in Moses: We sent him to Pharaoh with clear authority. 38 But he turned away with his supporters and said," A magician or a madman." 39 So We seized him and his hosts and hurled them into the sea and he was blamable. 40 And in the tribe of A’ad, when we sent a dry windstorm upon them. 41 It spared naught that it reached, but made it (all) as dust. 42 And in the tribe of Thamud when it was told to them, “Enjoy for a while.” 43 But they rebelled against their Lord's decree, and so the thunderbolt overtook them even while they gazed; 44 So they were not able to stand, nor could they help themselves. 45 [We destroyed] the people of Noah before them. They were certainly a sinful people. 46
