The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the Mount Sinai, 1 By the book inscribed. 2 in an exposed parchment 3 The house ever-peopled, 4 by the elevated canopy; 5 And [by] the sea filled [with fire], 6 VERILY, [O man,] the suffering decreed by thy Sustainer [for the sinners] will indeed come to pass: 7 Of it there is no preventer. 8 (It shall come to pass) on the Day when the heaven will convulse in a great convulsion, 9 The mountains move and fly away, 10 On that Day woe to those who belied 11 That play (and paddle) in shallow trifles. 12 The Day when they will be pushed down by force to the Fire of Hell, with a horrible, forceful pushing. 13 This is the fire which you used to deny. 14 "Is this then a fake, or is it ye that do not see? 15 Endure it [now]! But [whether you] bear yourselves with patience or without patience, it will be the same to you: you are but being requited for what you were wont to do." 16 The pious will live in bountiful Paradise, 17 Rejoicing at what their Lord has given them; and their Lord will preserve them from the torment of Hell. 18 'Eat and drink, with wholesome appetite, for that you were working. 19 They will recline (with ease) on thrones arranged in ranks. And We shall marry them to Houris (female, fair ones) with wide lovely eyes. 20 To those who have attained to faith We shall unite their offspring who have also followed them in faith, and We shall not let any of their good deeds go unrewarded; every human being is a pledge for whatever he has earned. 21 And We provide them with fruit and meat such as they desire. 22 and in that [paradise] they shall pass on to one another a cup which will not give rise to empty talk, and neither incite to sin. 23 ۞ and youths, of their own, shall pass among them as if they were hidden pearls. 24 They will converse with one another, putting questions to each other, 25 'When we were among our people' they will say, 'we were ever fearful, 26 Then Allah graced us with His favour and saved us from the chastisement of the scorching wind. 27 Before, we were supplicating to Him. He is the Giving, the Most Merciful' 28
