The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
CONSIDER Mount Sinai! 1 By the book inscribed. 2 on unrolled parchment, 3 And by oath of the Inhabited House. 4 And [by] the heaven raised high 5 and by the swelling sea, 6 the punishment of your Lord shall certainly come to pass, 7 There is none can avert it;- 8 On the Day the heaven will sway with circular motion 9 And the mountains will move with a visible movement. 10 Then woe that Day to those that treat (Truth) as Falsehood;- 11 and who indulged in false disputes against (God's revelations). 12 The day on which they shall be driven away to the fire of hell with violence. 13 "This is the fire which you were wont to call a lie! 14 Is it magic then or do you not see? 15 Go now and burn in it. It is all the same whether you bear it patiently or do not bear it with patience. You are only being recompensed for your deeds.” 16 The pious will live in bountiful Paradise, 17 Happy because of what their Lord hath given them, and (because) their Lord hath warded off from them the torment of hell-fire. 18 (And it is said unto them): Eat and drink in health (as a reward) for what ye used to do, 19 Reclining on ranged couches. And we wed them unto fair ones with wide, lovely eyes. 20 And as for those who have attained to faith and whose offspring will have followed them in faith, We shall unite them with their offspring; and We shall not let aught of their deeds go to waste: [but] every human being will be held in pledge for whatever he has earned. 21 And We shall increasingly give them fruit and meat such as they desire. 22 They will exchange with one another a cup [of wine] wherein [results] no ill speech or commission of sin. 23 ۞ And there will go round on them youths appointed to attend them as though they were pearls hidden. 24 And some of them draw near unto others, questioning, 25 "Before this, when we were among our families, we were full of fear of God's displeasure -- 26 "But Allah has been good to us, and has delivered us from the Penalty of the Scorching Wind. 27 "Verily, We used to invoke Him (Alone and none else) before. Verily, He is Al-Barr (the Most Subtle, Kind, Courteous, and Generous), the Most Merciful." 28
