The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By oath of (mount) Tur. 1 Consider [God's] revelation, inscribed 2 In parchment spread open 3 by the established House (Mecca), 4 by the high ceiling (heaven), 5 And the sea set aflame. 6 Lo! the doom of thy Lord will surely come to pass; 7 There shall be none to avert it; 8 On the Day when the heaven will shake with a dreadful shaking, 9 And the mountains will move away with an awful movement. 10 Then woe that Day to the beliers; 11 such as play at plunging, 12 A day when they will be pushed, forcibly shoved towards the fire of hell. 13 This is the fire which you used to deny. 14 Is this magic, or do you not see? 15 Roast in it! And bear you patiently, or bear not patiently, equal it is to you; you are only being recompensed for that you were working.' 16 As to the Righteous, they will be in Gardens, and in Happiness,- 17 Rejoicing in that which their Lord hath vouchsafed unto them; and their Lord will protect them from the torment of the Flame. 18 (To them will be said:) "Eat and drink ye, with profit and health, because of your (good) deeds." 19 They would recline on couches set in rows, paired with fair companions (clean of thought and) bright of eye. 20 And those who believe and whose families follow them in Faith,- to them shall We join their families: Nor shall We deprive them (of the fruit) of aught of their works: (Yet) is each individual in pledge for his deeds. 21 And We shall bestow on them, of fruit and meat, anything they shall desire. 22 They will exchange with one another a cup [of wine] wherein [results] no ill speech or commission of sin. 23 ۞ Round about them will serve, (devoted) to them, young male servants (handsome) as Pearls well-guarded. 24 They will go to one another asking each other questions: 25 They will say: verily we were aforetime, midst our household, ever in dread. 26 but Allah has been gracious to us and has protected us from the punishment of the burning wind. 27 Lo! we used to pray unto Him of old. Lo! He is the Benign, the Merciful. 28
