The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the Mount 1 by the book (Torah) written 2 In parchment spread open 3 By the House Frequented. 4 By the roof elevated. 5 and by the swelling sea, 6 Indeed your Lord’s punishment will surely take place. 7 there is no one who could avert it, 8 A day on which the heavens will shake with a visible shaking. 9 and the mountains shudder and shake. 10 Then woe that Day to the beliers; 11 Who play in talk of grave matters; 12 A day when they will be pushed, forcibly shoved towards the fire of hell. 13 This is the Fire which ye were wont to believe. 14 Is it magic then or do you not see? 15 Roast in it! And bear you patiently, or bear not patiently, equal it is to you; you are only being recompensed for that you were working.' 16 Surely the godfearing shall be in gardens and bliss, 17 Enjoying the (Bliss) which their Lord hath bestowed on them, and their Lord shall deliver them from the Penalty of the Fire. 18 "Eat and drink with relish," (they will be told), (as recompense) for what you had done." 19 reclining on couches [of happiness] ranged in rows!" And [in that paradise] We shall mate them with companions pure, most beautiful of eye. 20 And those who believe and whose progeny follow them in belief. We shall cause their progeny to join them, and We shall not diminish unto them aught of their own work. Every man is for that which he hath earned a pledge. 21 And We shall bestow on them fruit and meat in abundance - whatever they may desire: 22 They shall there exchange, one with another, a (loving) cup free of frivolity, free of all taint of ill. 23 ۞ And their boy servants shall go around them, as if they were pearls, safely hidden. 24 They will ask each other questions, 25 They say, 'We were before among our people, ever going in fear, 26 "But Allah has been good to us, and has delivered us from the Penalty of the Scorching Wind. 27 Verily we were wont to pray unto Him aforetime; verily He! it is He, the Benign, the Merciful. 28
