The Mountain (Al-Toor)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I CALL TO witness the Mount Sinai, 1 by the book (Torah) written 2 On a parchment scroll unrolled, 3 by the much-visited House, 4 And by the roof raised high (i.e. the heaven). 5 Consider the surf-swollen sea! 6 Indeed your Lord’s punishment will surely take place. 7 There is none who could avert it. 8 On the Day when the firmament will be in dreadful commotion. 9 And the mountains will pass on, departing - 10 Woe on that Day to those who deny the truth, 11 such as play at plunging, 12 On that Day when they shall be pitched into the Fire of Gehenna (Hell), 13 This is the Fire which you used to belie. 14 Is this magic, or is it that you do not see? 15 Endure the heat thereof, and whether ye are patient of it or impatient of it is all one for you. Ye are only being paid for what ye used to do. 16 Verily the God-fearing will be in Gardens and Delight. 17 rejoicing in all their Lord has given them, and their Lord will guard them against the punishment of Hell. 18 (They will be told): “Eat and drink to your hearts' content as a reward for your deeds.” 19 Reclining on thrones, in rows; and We have wedded them to maidens with gorgeous eyes. 20 And those who believed, and their seed followed them in belief, We shall join their seed with them, and We shall not defraud them of aught of their work; every man shall be pledged for what he earned. 21 And We will provide them with fruit and meat from whatever they desire. 22 They will exchange with one another a cup [of wine] wherein [results] no ill speech or commission of sin. 23 ۞ And there will go round on them youths appointed to attend them as though they were pearls hidden. 24 And they will advance unto each other asking questions. 25 'When we were among our people' they will say, 'we were ever fearful, 26 Then Allah graced us with His favour and saved us from the chastisement of the scorching wind. 27 “Indeed we used to worship Him in our previous life; indeed He only is the Benign, the Most Merciful.” 28
