The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the Mount (Sinai), 1 and by the Scripture penned 2 On an open record. 3 Consider the long-enduring house [of worship]! 4 Consider the vault [of heaven] raised high! 5 and by the swelling sea: 6 the punishment of your Lord shall certainly come to pass, 7 There is none who could avert it. 8 [It will come to pass] on the Day when the skies will be convulsed in [a great] convulsion, 9 and the mountains will move with [an awesome] movement. 10 Then woe that day unto the deniers 11 Those who sport entering into vain discourses. 12 The Day when they will be pushed down by force to the Fire of Hell, with a horrible, forceful pushing. 13 'This is the fire that you cried lies to! 14 Is this magic, or is it that you do not see? 15 Taste you therein its heat, and whether you are patient of it or impatient of it, it is all the same. You are only being requited for what you used to do. 16 Indeed the pious are in Gardens and peace. 17 Enjoying what their Lord has given them, and their Lord protected them from the punishment of Hellfire. 18 [They will be told], "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you used to do." 19 Reclining on couches ranged. And We shall couple them with maidens wide eyed. 20 And those who believe and whose progeny follow them in belief. We shall cause their progeny to join them, and We shall not diminish unto them aught of their own work. Every man is for that which he hath earned a pledge. 21 And We will provide them with fruit and meat from whatever they desire. 22 There they will pass a goblet to one another with neither idle talk nor sin, 23 ۞ They will be waited upon by immortal youths, like pearls hidden in their shells. 24 They will turn to one another and ask (regarding the past events). 25 Saying: Lo! of old, when we were with our families, we were ever anxious; 26 But God has granted us favors and saved us from the scorching heat of the torment. 27 before this, we used to pray to Him. Surely, He is the Beneficent, the Merciful." 28
