The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Mount Sinai, 1 And by oath of a passage, written – 2 in a parchment unrolled, 3 By the much-frequented Fane; 4 Consider the vault [of heaven] raised high! 5 And the sea kept filled, 6 Verily, the Doom of thy Lord will indeed come to pass;- 7 there is no one who could avert it, 8 on the Day when the skies are convulsed, 9 And the mountains will pass on, departing - 10 Woe, then, on that Day to those who give the lie (to this Message) 11 Who are playing in falsehood. 12 The Day they are thrust toward the fire of Hell with a [violent] thrust, [its angels will say], 13 “This is the fire, which you used to deny!” 14 “So is this magic, or are you unable to see?” 15 Enter into it, then bear (it) patiently, or do not bear (it) patiently, it is the same to you; you shall be requited only (for) what you did. 16 Lo! those who kept their duty dwell in gardens and delight, 17 enjoying what Allah will have endowed them with; and their Lord will have saved them from the torment of the Blazing Fire. 18 (And it is said unto them): Eat and drink in health (as a reward) for what ye used to do, 19 reclining on couches [of happiness] ranged in rows!" And [in that paradise] We shall mate them with companions pure, most beautiful of eye. 20 And as for those who have attained to faith and whose offspring will have followed them in faith, We shall unite them with their offspring; and We shall not let aught of their deeds go to waste: [but] every human being will be held in pledge for whatever he has earned. 21 And We provide them with fruit and meat such as they desire. 22 There they shall pass from hand to hand a (wine) cup, free from any Laghw (dirty, false, evil vague talk between them), and free from sin (because it will be legal for them to drink). 23 ۞ And there go round, waiting on them menservants of their own, as they were hidden pearls. 24 They will converse with one another, putting questions to each other, 25 They say, 'We were before among our people, ever going in fear, 26 Wherefore Allah hath obliged us, and hath protected us from the torment of the Scorch. 27 Formerly we had always prayed to Him. Surely He is Most Benign, Most Compassionate.” 28
