The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Mount (Sinai), 1 and by the Book in lines 2 On a parchment scroll unrolled, 3 Consider the long-enduring house [of worship]! 4 The roof raised high, 5 And by the sea kept filled (or it will be fire kindled on the Day of Resurrection). 6 Verily the torment of thine Lord is sure to befalls 7 No one can avert it. 8 Upon the Day when the heaven spins dizzily 9 and the mountains are in motion, 10 Then woe that Day to those that treat (Truth) as Falsehood;- 11 Who, ignoring the Reality, engage in pleasantries. 12 The day on which they shall be driven away to the fire of hell with violence. 13 This is the Fire which you used to belie. 14 Is this magic, or is it that you do not see? 15 “Enter it – now whether you patiently bear it or are impatient – it is the same for you; for you is a recompense only for what you used to do.” 16 Those who fear God and follow the straight path will surely be in gardens and in bliss, 17 rejoicing in that their Lord has given them; and their Lord shall guard them against the chastisement of Hell. 18 "Eat and drink with happiness because of what you used to do." 19 They will recline (with ease) on thrones arranged in ranks. And We shall marry them to Houris (female, fair ones) with wide lovely eyes. 20 And as for those who have attained to faith and whose offspring will have followed them in faith, We shall unite them with their offspring; and We shall not let aught of their deeds go to waste: [but] every human being will be held in pledge for whatever he has earned. 21 We shall give them fruits and meat as they desire. 22 and in that [paradise] they shall pass on to one another a cup which will not give rise to empty talk, and neither incite to sin. 23 ۞ and youths, of their own, shall pass among them as if they were hidden pearls. 24 They will ask each other questions, 25 'When we were among our people' they will say, 'we were ever fearful, 26 “So Allah did us a great favour, and saved us from the punishment of the flame.” 27 Surely we called upon Him before: Surely He is the Benign, the Merciful. 28
