The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
I CALL TO witness the Mount Sinai, 1 and the Book inscribed 2 On an open record. 3 by the Visited House, 4 The roof raised high, 5 and the sea swarming, 6 Verily, the Torment of your Lord will surely come to pass, 7 there is no one who could avert it, 8 On the day when the heaven will heave with (awful) heaving, 9 And the mountains will pass on, departing - 10 Woe, then, will be on that Day to the beliers 11 those who are in plunging, playing. 12 The day they are dragged and pushed into Hell, 13 This is the Fire which you used to belie. 14 Is it magic or do you not still see? 15 Roast therein; endure it or endure it not, thereof it is equal unto you. Ye are only being requited for that which ye have been working. 16 Verily the God-fearing will be in Gardens and Delight. 17 Delighted at the bestowal of their Lord; and their Lord has saved them from the fire. 18 (And it is said unto them): Eat and drink in health (as a reward) for what ye used to do, 19 The God-fearing shall be reclining on couches facing each other, and We shall wed them to maidens with large, beautiful eyes. 20 The offspring of the believers will also follow them to Paradise. So shall We join their offspring to them because of their faith. We shall reduce nothing from their deeds. Everyone will be responsible for his own actions. 21 And We shall bestow on them fruit and meat in abundance - whatever they may desire: 22 There, they shall pass from hand to hand a cup which does not lead to any idle talk or sin. 23 ۞ And their boy servants shall go around them, as if they were pearls, safely hidden. 24 And they [who are thus blest] will turn to one another, asking each other [about their past lives]. 25 Saying: "We were also once full of fear at home. 26 and God was gracious to us, and guarded us against the chastisement of the burning wind; 27 "Verily, We used to invoke Him (Alone and none else) before. Verily, He is Al-Barr (the Most Subtle, Kind, Courteous, and Generous), the Most Merciful." 28
