The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By oath of (mount) Tur. 1 And the Book written 2 On a parchment scroll unrolled, 3 By the much-frequented Fane; 4 By the Canopy Raised High; 5 And [by] the sea filled [with fire], 6 the punishment of your Lord shall certainly come to pass, 7 Of it there is no averter. 8 (It shall come to pass) on the Day when the heaven will convulse in a great convulsion, 9 And the mountains will move with a visible movement. 10 Woe, then, on that Day to all who give the lie to the truth 11 Who are playing in falsehood. 12 The day when they are thrust with a (disdainful) thrust, into the fire of hell 13 "This is the Fire which you used to deny. 14 Is this magic, or is it that you do not see? 15 Roast in it, bear it with or without patience, it is the same, you are only being recompensed for that which you used to do' 16 Those who fear God and follow the straight path will surely be in gardens and in bliss, 17 Happy because of what their Lord hath given them, and (because) their Lord hath warded off from them the torment of hell-fire. 18 Eat and drink pleasantly for what you did, 19 reclining on couches [of happiness] ranged in rows!" And [in that paradise] We shall mate them with companions pure, most beautiful of eye. 20 To those who have attained to faith We shall unite their offspring who have also followed them in faith, and We shall not let any of their good deeds go unrewarded; every human being is a pledge for whatever he has earned. 21 And We will provide them with fruit and meat from whatever they desire. 22 They shall pass on to one another a cup that will incite neither levity nor sin. 23 ۞ And their boy servants shall go around them, as if they were pearls, safely hidden. 24 They will converse with one another, putting questions to each other, 25 They will say: "Behold, aforetime - when we were [still living] in the midst of our kith and kin - we were full of fear [at the thought of God's displeasure]: 26 Then Allah graced us with His favour and saved us from the chastisement of the scorching wind. 27 We used to pray to Him erstwhile; He is the just and merciful. 28
