The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the Mount, 1 Consider [God's] revelation, inscribed 2 on wide-open scrolls. 3 by the established House (Mecca), 4 By the Canopy Raised High; 5 And by the sea kept filled (or it will be fire kindled on the Day of Resurrection). 6 Most surely the punishment of your Lord will come to pass; 7 there is none to prevent it. 8 Upon the day when heaven spins dizzily 9 And the mountains will fly hither and thither. 10 Then woe, that Day, to the deniers, 11 Those who sport entering into vain discourses. 12 The Day they are thrust toward the fire of Hell with a [violent] thrust, [its angels will say], 13 “This is the Hell which you used to give the lie to.” 14 Is it magic, or you cannot see? 15 Now enter it. Whether you behave patiently or impatiently will make no difference: you are only being repaid for what you have done. 16 Surely those who guard (against evil) shall be in gardens and bliss 17 rejoicing in that their Lord has given them; and their Lord shall guard them against the chastisement of Hell. 18 "Eat and drink with relish," (they will be told), (as recompense) for what you had done." 19 The God-fearing shall be reclining on couches facing each other, and We shall wed them to maidens with large, beautiful eyes. 20 And those who believed, and their seed followed them in belief, We shall join their seed with them, and We shall not defraud them of aught of their work; every man shall be pledged for what he earned. 21 And We shall succour them with fruits and flesh such as they desire 22 There they shall pass from hand to hand a (wine) cup, free from any Laghw (dirty, false, evil vague talk between them), and free from sin (because it will be legal for them to drink). 23 ۞ Youths as fair as hidden pearls will be set apart to wait upon them; they will be running to and fro to serve them. 24 And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other. 25 'When we were among our people' they will say, 'we were ever fearful, 26 and so God has graced us with His favour, and has warded off from us all suffering through the scorching winds [of frustration]. 27 Verily, we did invoke Him [alone] ere this: [and now He has shown us] that He alone is truly benign, a true dispenser of grace!" 28
