The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the Mount, 1 and by the Scripture penned 2 In parchment unrolled. 3 And the House frequented, 4 Consider the vault [of heaven] raised high! 5 And by the Ocean filled with Swell;- 6 Indeed, the punishment of your Lord will occur. 7 There shall be none to avert it; 8 On the Day the heaven will sway with circular motion 9 and the mountains shall violently fly about. 10 So on that day, ruin is for those who deny. 11 That play (and paddle) in shallow trifles. 12 A day when they will be pushed, forcibly shoved towards the fire of hell. 13 (And told:) "This is the fire which you denied. 14 Then is this magic, or do you not see? 15 "Burn ye therein: the same is it to you whether ye bear it with patience, or not: Ye but receive the recompense of your (own) deeds." 16 Lo! those who kept their duty dwell in gardens and delight, 17 Delighted at the bestowal of their Lord; and their Lord has saved them from the fire. 18 "Eat and drink with happiness because of what you used to do." 19 They would recline on couches set in rows, paired with fair companions (clean of thought and) bright of eye. 20 The offspring of the believers will also follow them to Paradise. So shall We join their offspring to them because of their faith. We shall reduce nothing from their deeds. Everyone will be responsible for his own actions. 21 And We shall bestow on them fruit and meat in abundance - whatever they may desire: 22 They will therein snatch from one another a cup; therein will be neither vain babble nor sin. 23 ۞ And young attendants like pearls within their shells, will go round. 24 They will ask each other questions, 25 They will say: "Aforetime, we were not without fear for the sake of our people. 26 But God has granted us favors and saved us from the scorching heat of the torment. 27 Verily we were wont to pray unto Him aforetime; verily He! it is He, the Benign, the Merciful. 28
