The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the Mount; 1 By a Decree inscribed 2 On a parchment scroll unrolled, 3 And by the Bait-ul-Ma'mur (the house over the heavens parable to the Ka'bah at Makkah, continuously visited by the angels); 4 And [by] the heaven raised high 5 And the sea set aflame. 6 Lo! the doom of thy Lord will surely come to pass; 7 No one can avert it. 8 [It will come to pass] on the Day when the skies will be convulsed in [a great] convulsion, 9 And the mountains move away with (awful) movement, 10 On that Day woe to those who belied 11 all those who [throughout their lives] but idly played with things vain 12 on the Day when they shall be thrust into the fire with [an irresistible] thrust, [and will be told:] 13 'This is the fire that you cried lies to! 14 Is it magic or do you not still see? 15 Roast in it, bear it with or without patience, it is the same, you are only being recompensed for that which you used to do' 16 Surely the God-fearing shall be in Gardens and bliss, 17 Enjoying what their Lord has given them, and their Lord protected them from the punishment of Hellfire. 18 They will be told, "Eat and drink to your heart's delight for what you have done". 19 Reclining upon couches ranged in rows; and We shall espouse them to wide-eyed houris. 20 And those who accepted faith, and whose descendants followed them with faith – We have joined their descendants with them, and have not reduced anything for them from their deeds; every soul is trapped in its own deeds. 21 We shall provide them in abundance with such fruit and meat as they desire. 22 They shall pass on to one another a cup that will incite neither levity nor sin. 23 ۞ They will be served by youths who will be as beautiful as pearls. 24 And they [who are thus blest] will turn to one another, asking each other [about their past lives]. 25 Saying, “Indeed before this, we were in our houses, worried.” 26 and God was gracious to us, and guarded us against the chastisement of the burning wind; 27 Verily, we did invoke Him [alone] ere this: [and now He has shown us] that He alone is truly benign, a true dispenser of grace!" 28
