The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
CONSIDER Mount Sinai! 1 and the Book inscribed 2 in an exposed parchment 3 by the much-frequented House, 4 Consider the vault [of heaven] raised high! 5 And the swollen sea, 6 Indeed, the punishment of your Lord will occur. 7 There is none that can ward it off. 8 Upon the day when heaven spins dizzily 9 And the mountains will pass on, departing - 10 On that Day woe to those who belied 11 Those who are playing in pursuits. 12 The day when they are thrust with a (disdainful) thrust, into the fire of hell 13 This is the fire which you used to deny. 14 "Is this then a fake, or is it ye that do not see? 15 Go now and burn in it. It is all the same whether you bear it patiently or do not bear it with patience. You are only being recompensed for your deeds.” 16 Truly, the God-fearing will dwell [on that Day] in gardens and in bliss, 17 Rejoicing in that which their Lord hath vouchsafed unto them; and their Lord will protect them from the torment of the Flame. 18 "Eat and drink with happiness because of what you used to do." 19 They will recline (with ease) on thrones arranged in ranks. And We shall marry them to Houris (female, fair ones) with wide lovely eyes. 20 Those who believe, and whose descendants follow in belief, We will join their descendants to them. And We will not reduce them of anything of their deeds. Every one is pledged for what he has earned. 21 We shall give them fruits and meats, and what they desire. 22 while they pass therein a cup one to another wherein is no idle talk, no cause of sin, 23 ۞ And there will go round boy-servants of theirs, to serve them as if they were preserved pearls. 24 They will converse with one another, putting questions to each other, 25 They will say, "Indeed, we were previously among our people fearful [of displeasing Allah]. 26 God has been gracious to us and has saved us from the torment of Hell's intense heat -- 27 Lo! we used to pray unto Him of old. Lo! He is the Benign, the Merciful. 28
