The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
CONSIDER Mount Sinai! 1 And [by] a Book inscribed 2 on unrolled parchment, 3 By the much-frequented Fane; 4 And [by] the heaven raised high 5 And by the Ocean filled with Swell;- 6 Indeed your Lord’s punishment will surely take place. 7 there is none to avert it. 8 Upon the day when heaven spins dizzily 9 and the mountains are in motion, 10 Then woe, that Day, to the deniers, 11 Those who sport entering into vain discourses. 12 on that Day they shall be ruthlessly thrust into the Fire of Hell. 13 This is the fire which you used to give the lie to. 14 Was it, then, a delusion or is it that you failed to see [its truth]? 15 Endure the heat thereof, and whether ye are patient of it or impatient of it is all one for you. Ye are only being paid for what ye used to do. 16 Indeed, the righteous will be in gardens and pleasure, 17 rejoicing in all their Lord has given them, and their Lord will guard them against the punishment of Hell. 18 (And it is said unto them): Eat and drink in health (as a reward) for what ye used to do, 19 They will recline on couches arranged in rows and We shall couple them with maidens with large, lovely eyes. 20 And those who believed, and their seed followed them in belief, We shall join their seed with them, and We shall not defraud them of aught of their work; every man shall be pledged for what he earned. 21 And We aided them with fruit and meat, whatever they desire. 22 There they pass from hand to hand a cup wherein is neither vanity nor cause of sin. 23 ۞ They will be waited upon by immortal youths, like pearls hidden in their shells. 24 They will converse with one another, putting questions to each other, 25 'When we were among our people' they will say, 'we were ever fearful, 26 But Allah has been gracious to us and He has saved us from the punishment of the hot wind: 27 We used to pray to Him erstwhile; He is the just and merciful. 28
