The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Mount (Sinai), 1 And the Book written 2 on unrolled parchment, 3 by the much-visited House, 4 And [by] the heaven raised high 5 and by the swelling sea: 6 Lo! the doom of thy Lord will surely come to pass; 7 there is none to prevent it. 8 On the Day the heaven will sway with circular motion 9 and the mountains move, moving. 10 Woe, then, on that Day to all who give the lie to the truth 11 Who, ignoring the Reality, engage in pleasantries. 12 On the Day when they shall be thrust into Hell with a violent thrust (and shall be told): 13 'This is the fire that you cried lies to! 14 "Is this then a fake, or is it ye that do not see? 15 Roast in it. Bear it with patience or impatience, it will be the same for you. You will be requited for what you had done." 16 Lo! those who kept their duty dwell in gardens and delight, 17 Rejoicing at what their Lord has given them; and their Lord will preserve them from the torment of Hell. 18 (And it is said unto them): Eat and drink in health (as a reward) for what ye used to do, 19 Reclining on thrones set in lines, and We will unite them to large-eyed beautiful ones. 20 And those who believe and whose offspring follow them in Faith, to them shall We join their offspring, and We shall not decrease the reward of their deeds in anything. Every person is a pledge for that which he has earned. 21 We shall give them fruits and meat as they desire. 22 They will exchange cups of wine free of (incitement to) pleasantry or sin. 23 ۞ and there go round them youths, their own, as if they were hidden pearls. 24 And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other. 25 They will say: "Aforetime, we were not without fear for the sake of our people. 26 But God has been gracious to us, and has saved us from the torment of scorching wind. 27 Surely we called upon Him before: Surely He is the Benign, the Merciful. 28
